Activities of His Holiness in Boston, MA

MIT_01On September 1, His Holiness traveled from New Jersey to Boston. Along the way, he stopped at a small Tibetan community in Connecticut for lunch, after which he gave a talk to the Tibetans gathered there.

Jowo_01On September 3, His Holiness gave a cleansing and consecration ceremony to the Jowo Rinpoche statue that has been created, with much difficulty, by Lama Konchok Sonam of the Drikung Meditation Center. That evening, at a public talk at MIT on “Finding Peace and Happiness Within,” His Holiness explained that inner happiness stems from three qualities: an understanding of impermanence, the development of contentedness, and the cultivation of loving-kindness. His talk was followed by a question-and-answer session and a book-signing for his new biography.

Over the weekend, Drikung Meditation Center hosted His Holiness for teachings at a local theater. On Saturday, September 4, His Holiness gave the Torma Empowerment for Fivefold Mahamudra, followed in the afternoon by detailed instructions on Lord Jigten Sumgon’s “Song of Realization of Fivefold Mahamudra.”

DMC_02On Sunday the 5th, His Holiness gave a long-life empowerment in Machik Drupay Gyalmo’s tradition, followed by a question and answer session. In the afternoon, he gave the Great Drikung Phowa transmission to a full theater of disciples. After the teachings, His Holiness gave an important talk to the hundreds of Tibetans who had gathered for the earlier events. Starting with an overview of Buddhist history and the essence of Dharma teachings, His Holiness then gave his advice on how to maintain one’s culture in a new environment and, along those lines, how to properly train and educate the next generation.
