On behalf of the staff and the nuns from Drikung Kagyu Samtenling Nunnery I would like to wish you all the best of health, happiness and harmony. 2010 has been a good year for us. We have 78 nuns at present. Four nuns have left the nunnery in the last few months, but others are happily studying here and living exemplary lives.
At present we have 38 nuns in the college section. Two nuns are attending class 5. The students here obtain a diploma from the Kagyu College after completing class 9 and they can then teach, work in the office or pursue further studies or do a traditional three years, three months and three days retreat.
There are 13 nuns in retreat here now, 20 in the monastery section and 8 nuns in the nunnery class. At present we have only one class at the nunnery. These nuns will either go to the Monastery section or pursue their studies at Kagyu College from this summer. We have 6 monk teachers as well as Ms. Norzin Shakabpa and Ms. Jennifer Kocsis from USA are teaching English.
We have a new Secretary/Accountant, Ms. Tsering Chokey. Her predecessor, Ms. Namgyal Yudon has been appointed the Secretary for Songtsen Library.
On the whole the nuns are studying well. They have just completed their half yearly exams and they are eagerly waiting for the results. Two nuns are attending yoga classes, so that they can teach yoga to the other nuns. There is also a computer class going on alongside an art class. During the college elocution day, Nun Dolkar from class 4 came third and we hope more nuns can be outstanding next year. The monks took away most of the prizes.
Ladakh New Year, known as the Farmer’s New Year in Tibet was celebrated with two days holiday and feasting at the Nunnery. On March 5 we will celebrate Tibetan New Year and we will once again have two days vacation. The nuns are looking forward to the celebrations. We will miss presenting scarves to His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgön Chetsang as he is still in New Zealand seeing to the building of a Retreat Center there.
The staff and students of Drikung Kagyu Samtenling Nunnery at Dehra Dun once again thank you for all your support and assistance. We send our prayers and warm wishes to you all.
